Take a moment to imagine this. Mix a measurement of F1 racecar with equal amounts of the Batmobile, with the power and attitude to match both cars, and you’ll get something that looks like the Cadillac Project GTP Race Car. But this car is more than just an exercise in design and fantasy. Cadillac is looking to the GTP Race Car to defend its WeatherTech DPi Manufacturer Championship title in 2022. Cadillac has teamed up with Dallara to get this car out on the track.

“While the new race car will take into account IMSA and ACO regulations,” says Chris Mikalauskas, the lead exterior creative designer at Cadillac, “Cadillac’s brand characteristics will be instantly recognizable, many of which are seen on our V-Series vehicles today. It will artistically combine form and function to influence the development of the forthcoming race car. Elements of Cadillac’s brand DNA, such as vertical lighting and floating blades, will be present throughout. ”
Cadillac has been pretty quiet in regards to the new engine and hybrid powertrain system for the GTP Race Car, but there’s no need to doubt their prowess. Yes, the automotive manufacturer is probably best known for luxury and comfortableness, there’s also a history of performance. “Cadillac has a long history of successful performance on and off the track which drives excitement for our fans and customers. That excitement was never more evident than last year when we saw an extraordinary demand for the V-Series Blackwings right after they were revealed, ”states Cadillac’s vice president, Rory Harvey.
Cadillac plans to debut this fourth-generation Cadillac prototype in the 2023 Rolex 24 of Daytona. In addition to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the GTP car will also compete in the Automobile Club de l’Ouest Grand Touring Prototype. Looking ahead to 2023, Cadillac plans to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
